Worthwhile Cause of the Day: Detroit’s mayor, Dave Bing, glibly swatted away a legitimate proposal to build a Robocop statue for his city. The Criterion Collection found this to be a poor decision on the part of Mayor Bing, and so did I. If you’re in the same boat as myself and The Criterion Collection, all hope is not lost: A Kickstarter project has been launched to crowd-fund the construction of a Robocop statue for $50,000.
This is something that needs to happen, if only for all of the much-needed attention it will bring to Detroit. Mayor Bing may have passed on the idea, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a good one, or at least one that deserves better than a dismissive tweet.
If just 50,000 people say “I’d buy that for a dollar,” they can help Detroit install the ultimate symbol of a better tomorrow.

DO IT.
As much as I love Robocop. And as much as I want to live in a world with a legitimate Robocop statue… I can’t help but think of the limitless amount of more worthwhile causes. Detroit is so broke it literally has problems finding money to bury its dead. Sure this would bring attention to Detroit, but you can’t tell me the $50k couldn’t go to a better cause.
